COMPETITOR INFORMATION
 
ABSOLUTELY NO PARTS OF ENTRY FEES MAY BE REFUNDED, CREDITED OR TRANSFERRED!

New York Triathlon (NYT) has staged over 500 multi-sport events since 1984 and is proud to claim the best safety record in the country. The following rules and regulations have been designed for your personal safety and enjoyment. Failure to comply with these rules will result in penalties and/or disqualification.

IMPORTANT: Race packets will not be issued without your knowing your race bib number and having photo ID!
You will receive an email with you race
bib number approximately 3-4 days before the event. At check-in you must know your bib number before getting in to the line that corresponds to your number. If you do not know your number, you may look it up on an alphabetical list posted near the registration tables before getting in your respective line.

You may not pick up a bib number for anyone else.

XPRESS CHECK IN: NYT members should proceed directly to the Xpress Check in line. You must have a valid NYT 2010 membership card and know your race/bib number to receive your race packet


Entry Fee:
$60 before April 25,  ($55 NYT members)
Late Fee: $65  after April 25. ($60 NYT members)
Race Day (Sunday): $70 ($65 NYTC members).
No T-shirts given to race day entries.
- No personal checks accepted on weekend of race (except from NYT members) 

AWARDS: 1st, 2nd, 3rd overall and in 5-year groups; 18-70+ (men), 18-60+ (women).
***  To receive an award you must be present at the awards ceremony ***.
 
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
Pre-Race Day - Saturday
4:00 - 5:30 p.m. - Packet pick-up (optional for preregistered entrants) and new entries accepted at Brickwell Cycling and Multisports, 3 Northern Blvd., Great Neck, NY (near Little Neck Pkwy.), Tel: 516-482-1193.
Race Day - Sunday
6:30 - 7:30 a.m.: - Check-in  New entries accepted.
7:40 a.m. - Pre-race announcements. Race packets forfeited after 7:30 a.m.!
8:00 a.m. - Start of Queens Biathlon (Rain or Shine)
10:45 a.m. - Awards ceremony, post-race refreshments.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Is there someone you know who could help while you're competing? Call the NYT at 845-247-0271 from 10:00-5:00 and leave a message with their name and confirm that they will be at the race. Volunteers will receive a souvenir T-shirt and sincere thanks from all competitors.

RUN: Start at the transition area located in the upper Alley Park parking lot. Run down ramp to Winchester Blvd. Turn right and run to lower Alley Park (opposite Creedmore Hospital). Continue run in Alley Park to the Old Motor Pkwy (behind the tennis courts) to 220th Street. Turn at 220th St. (1.5 miles), and follow same route back to transition area.

BIKE: The 20 mi. bike course starts in Alley Park and proceeds down the eastbound service road of the Grand Central Parkway (GCP) to the 3 northbound lanes of the Cross Island Pkwy (CIP). Continue for 4.5 mi. to turn around point at Bell Blvd. and ride back to GCP. Entrance where you will turn around again and repeat entire loop for the SECOND time before exiting the Cross Island Pkwy and following service road back to transition area. Officials will record race numbers of bikers rounding the cones.
Note: - If you do not start the "second loop" on the Cross Island Parkway within 90 minutes after the start of the race…you will not be allowed to continue and you will be instructed to bike back to the transition area.

TRANSITION AREA: Entry to the secured transition area is for competitors ONLY! OFF LIMITS TO NON-COMPETITORS! Bicycles must be put on assigned racks corresponding to race number. NO cycling in the transition area. Competitors who cycle past the "DISMOUNT" signs at the entrance to the transition area will be penalized. Bikes and equipment may be removed by competitors ONLY upon showing the large run number and bike number to security personnel. Friends and family members will not be allowed to remove bikes.

DRAFTING/PACK RIDING: Maintain a minimum distance of three bike lengths from the bike in front of you! You may not be closer than this distance for any period exceeding 15 seconds or you will be assessed a two minute penalty.

Riding in a Pack is a Serious Violation of the Rules of Tri/Biathlon! . A competitor who has three "drafting reports" filed by fellow competitors will automatically receive a two minute penalty.

CENTER LANE: The center lane on the Parkway is OFF LIMITS to cyclists, even to PASS other cyclists, and is reserved for official & emergency vehicles. Competitors caught cycling in the center lane will be penalized without warning!

HELMETS: Penalties will be assessed if cycling helmets (ANSI, SNELL or USCF approved) are not positively secured with chinstrap BEFORE leaving the transition area. Riding without a helmet will result in immediate disqualification!RACE NUMBERS: The event will be timed with the DAG Disposable Chip Timing System. The DAG System is the latest entrant in the chip timing industry and promises to deliver exceptional and reliable performance.

RACE NUMBERS/ELECTRONIC TIMING:

At check-in, on the morning of the race,  you will pick up an electronic timing  chip that corresponds to your assigned bib number. This chip must be attached with a velcro strap to your ankle.and must remain attached throughout the entire event.
Wearing any other chip or wearing multiple chips could lead to errors in overall timing and your disqualification.
After you finish the event, you must remove the chip and drop it in the collection bin at the end of the timing chute.
If you lose your chip during the race or fail to turn it in after you cross the finish line,
you will be charged $78 for the lost chip. If you paid for the race using a credit card, your card will be charged automatically. Others will be sent an invoice.
Your bib number must be attached to the FRONT of your shirt (or race belt) during the entire race .
The 2-sided vinyl (adhesive-backed) bike frame number must be attached to the front of the top tube of your bicycle and for security reasons may not be removed until you leave the leave the transition area. 
Check the label affixed to the timing tag (on the front of your bib number) for correct information regarding your name, age, sex and category.
 Notify officials prior to the race of any mistakes!

RESULTS: Results will be posted on the NEW YORK TRIATHLON web site www.NYTri.org.

POST-RACE: Award winners must be present at the post-race awards ceremony to claim their prize. No Exceptions! Refreshments are for competitors ONLY and are not provided for friends and family members. You must identify yourself as a competitor by wearing your race number.

HOW TO GET THERE:
From Grand Central Parkway/Triborough Bridge: Go past Laguardia Airport and Shea Stadium. Stay on Grand Central Parkway till Exit 23/Alley Park. Follow signs to Winchester Blvd. Make left turn on Winchester and then an immediate left again and pass through metal barrier leading up ramp to upper Alley Park parking lot.
From Grand Central Parkway/Eastern Long Island: Exit the Grand Central Pkwy at Exit 24 on to Little Neck Parkway/SOUTH. Proceed on Little Neck Parkway to Union Turnpike (approx. 5 blocks). Turn right on Union Turnpike and make a right on to Winchester Blvd. (you will cross over the Cross Island Parkway and Winchester Boulevard will be your first right). Go past Creedmore Psychiatric Center (on Winchester Blvd) and make left under Grand Central overpass, pass through metal barrier and up ramp to the transition area.
From Whitestone Bridge/Westchester/Connecticut: Follow signs to Cross Island Parkway/Eastern Long Island. South on Cross Island Pkwy to Exit 28/Union Turnpike. Make left at traffic light on to Union Turnpike to first traffic light at the corner of Winchester Blvd. Right on Winchester Blvd. and pass lower Alley Park (opposite Creedmore hospital). Make left under Grand Central overpass, pass through metal barrier and up ramp to the transition area.
From Staten Island/New Jersey: Cross Verrazanno Bridge and get on Belt Parkway. Go past Kennedy Airport. Stay on Belt Pkwy until Cross Island Pkwy-North. Pass Belmont Racetrack and get off Cross Island Pkwy at Union Turnpike. Turn left at traffic light on Union Turnpike .Go one block to first traffic light at the corner of Winchester Blvd. Right on Winchester Blvd. and pass lower Alley Park (opposite Creedmore hospital). Make left under highway - pass metal barrier and make left up ramp to transition area.

Subway: E or F Train to stop closest to Kew Gardens/Union Tpke stop (on Queens Blvd.). Find Union Turnpike and bike to Winchester Blvd. (4-5 miles) , which is one block past 237th Street. Make left on Winchester Blvd. and follow signs to Alley Park (see above).

RACE VIOLATIONS & PENALTIES
2 Minute Penalties
- Riding in/out of transition area.
- Entering/exiting transition area under/over/between barriers.
- Bicycle not on assigned bike rack or racked incorrectly.
- Drafting or "pack riding" violation (each incident).
- Being paced or coached by a non-competitor ("outside assistance").
4 Minute Penalties
- Unsecured helmet chinstrap leaving/entering transition area.
- Biking in center lane on parkway or in other restricted lane(s).
Disqualification
- Riding without an approved biking helmet.
- Wearing headphones during any portion of race.
- Any verbal abuse of volunteers, officials or staff.
